Fingerprint evidence was considered a crucial piece of evidence until other advanced and high profile crime investigation techniques such as DNA typing were introduced. However, even today fingerprint evidence continues to be very much in use in criminal cases and investigations. Criminal lawyers, as a result, devote great time in challenging the use and introduction of such evidence.

The widely known principle that no two human beings can have the same fingerprints does not really have scientific validity. But it is still treated as highly reliable evidence and it very accessible to juries. No specialized knowledge is required to understand something so basic that each individual’s fingers contain a contour map of whorls and ridges that is entirely unique.

How are Fingerprints Matched

In a criminal case, fingerprint evidence is based on two fundamental principles. The first is that the swirled skin the finger tips of a human being does not change over his or her lifetime. The second principle is that no two individuals can have an identical pattern of friction ridges. Even siblings and twins have different fingerprints.

Law enforcement officers make use of fingerprints to identify defendants by making a comparison between the prints already existing in the police files and the prints found at the scene of crime. Police records include fingerprints of millions of people, and it is not a record only of known criminals. Fingerprints can be recorded when a person is arrested, or when a person takes up a sensitive job assignment.

Matching of fingerprint involves matching several points that are common between the two sets of prints. Fingerprinting experts have a disagreement over the minimum number of points required to match in order to declare a perfect match. Some experts may opine that only 12 points are sufficient to declare a match, while some other experts may insisting on matching up to 20 points before declaring a perfect match.

How are Fingerprints Found?

One of the challenges commonly faced by the officers investigating a criminal case is to find good fingerprints at the scene of crime. Several rows of sweat pores are contained in the friction ridges in the hands. Hands typically have sweat that is mixed with dirt as well as natural body oils, and this leaves fingerprints on even surfaces.

Crime investigators make use of certain chemicals and powders to make the prints visible. How clear the fingerprints are in such a situation will largely depend on the quality and smoothness of the surface from where they are lifted. New and advanced computer-based fingerprint enhancement techniques are now available to develop a full pattern of fingerprints where only some fragments of prints are available.

A Defensive Strategy

Laser technology is also used to identify the prints that are barely visible on the surface. With the help of latest technologies, fingerprint experts are increasingly able to recover identifiable fingerprints from most of the surfaces. However, the existing technologies are unable to determine the age of a particular set of fingerprints. Therefore, defense attorneys may sometimes argue that the defendant’s prints found at the scene of the crime belonged to a period prior to the occurrence of the crime. For instance, the defendant could have left those prints at the scene of the crime a few days prior when he or she was over there watching a movie or a baseball game.

The technical assessment and justification along with the applicable standards are either equivalent or identical for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) when it comes to C Tick marking and CE marking. The Australian technical requirements for C Tick are a subset of the CE requirements for EMC, with CE including additional requirements for immunity. Also CE is much more extensive than C Tick as it covers a broad range of product safety with application from toys to watercraft. And although C Tick covers radio transmitters and EMR, in the case of EMC the test reports used for CE may be used for C Tick.

The set of standards mandated by the Australian Communication and Media Authority (ACMA) for EMC include European Standards (these commence with an EN). Some care must be taken to ensure that the EN standard applied is applicable to the product that a supplier is placing on the Australian market and that all applicable clauses of current version of the standard have been applied. Note that “applicable” is the key word as older standards may still be applicable as the changes that led up to the current version of the standard are not relevant to the product being supplied.

Variants and families of products, as well some special cases such a battery operated devices, need technical assessment and justification to show that they are compliant. This can be achieved by an analysis of the “critical components” and the design with the aim of finding the most representative configurations as well as identifying those components that are benign or low risk from and EMC perspective.

Once the technical file is completed all that remains is to fill out the Declaration of Conformity form that is available from the ACMA’s website and place the C Tick mark on the product. To obtain the C Tick just fill out the application on the ACMA’s website and they will register you on their database and issue you with a supplier code number.

Just a reminder that only Australian companies can apply for C Tick and that agency agreements can only be made between Australian companies such as the importer and the Australian agent. An agency agreement between an Australian agent and a non-Australian company is meaningless.

The ACMA will phase out the C Tick mark beginning March 2013 with the Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM) being the replacement. Their aim, in apart, is to minimize the number of compliance marks required on Australian products. The changes will see the RCM cover telecommunication, radiocommunications, EMC, EMR. Currently the RCM is an alternative to the C Tick and may also be used to show compliance with relevant electrical safety regiemes. Its use for electrical safety will continue.

Statistical information shows that nearly one out of five workplace injuries happen from slips, falls, and trips. Most of the time, you will see photographs of slip and falls on social media, such as Facebook, because they are at the fault of the victim. They occur due to limited traction or loss of balance. They can occur on the same level you are on or you can fall from an elevated level. Trips can occur when your foot strikes an object and you lose your balance. While painful, these are rarely taken to court because liability is not on the property owner.

However, slip and fall accidents that cause a disability or other injury requires more than just photographs to be taken. These include falling due to wet flooring, ice, grease, loose carpeting, and clutter, worn ropes on stairs, damaged steps on a ladder, inattention, open desk drawers, or uneven scaffolding. A lawyer will tell you that these injuries are not due to just an accident, they could have been avoided.

Slip and falls can be categorized by human error, environmental issue, or equipment problems. Some type of equipment hazards may include uneven surfaces, wearing the wrong type of footwear, substances such as grease or oil, and edges of elevated areas that are not properly secured. Human factors include failure to properly follow instructions, inattention, being in a hurry or fatigue. Environmental problems that may cause slips and falls include poor weather conditions or inadequate lighting.

If you fall on the same surface that you are on, this may result in injuries that include sprains, contusions, bruising, strains or fractures. These injuries can affect anywhere on the body. If you fall from a higher surface to a lower one, you may experience more sever injuries including broken bones and head trauma.

It is everyone’s responsibility to remain safe while at work but OSHA standards do require that employers ensure their employees work in a safe environment with the proper tools and equipment that they need to perform the job safely, adequately and correctly. If the standards are not met, then the employer can and will be held liable.

Should you experience a serious injury because of a workplace hazard that was the result of negligence by the employer, you should seek out legal counsel. An experienced personal injury lawyer can help you determine what type of case you have against the employer and what compensation may be owed to you.

Compensation may include paid wages for loss of work, medical bills being paid and payment for pain and suffering.

Private Investigators and private detectives use many methods to gain the correct result depending on the investigation they are working on. To perform any investigations investigators will use various types of techniques such as; Surveillance or Traces. When conducting traces investigators have to be very careful they don’t break the data protection act, most information private investigators use are open directories that anybody can use. To conduct surveillance they will plot up at the subjects best known addresses, i.e. Home, work, or any regular place they visit. They will then follow the subject and record anything they think is necessary.

Most Detective Agencies will offer many services including; Corporate, Executive, Pre-employment verification, Background checks, Statement taking, Tracing and many more. Private investigators will also support personal injury cases, insurance claims and fraud, child custody, tracking missing persons and matrimonial cases.

The duties of a private investigator solely depend on the requirements that the client is after. For example, a case came in to an investigator where he has been asked to conduct covert observations to see if the ‘subject’ is as injured as they are claiming. Cause of action for an investigator will be to carry out ‘covert observations’ and covertly film the subject. The investigator will need to know details of the injury, so the investigators can focus on that part of the body more. Private investigators save millions each year on personal injury and fraudulent claims.

Private investigators are often specialized in a certain field, such as; surveillance or tracing. Not all private investigators are able to carry out covert surveillance some mainly focus their work on; process serving and other areas of the industry, they will normally sub-contracted surveillance jobs out to firms who specialize in that area. To become a specialist in covert surveillance you will need training and experience, although they are a lot of new investigators entering the industry which is massively growing they normally don’t last very long and don’t get the bigger jobs.

If you are looking at hiring a private detective they is a lot of research that needs to be done, the industry is massively over populated and they are many complaints of investigators not getting the right result, being compromised offering illegal services and so on. The internet is a massive tool in finding out the legit companies to the not so legit organizations.

Private Investigators are also known as; Private detectives, Enquiry agents, process servers, detective agencies and detectives.

The best route to understanding what regulatory compliance means is to go the root of the expression, which is clear. Compliance is described as a state of being in accordance with set regulations. So, regulatory compliance is simple -it is being compliant with regulations. Let us explore what kind of compliance is required, and what regulation are we talking about.

Regulatory compliance is an ocean:

In a broad sense, regulatory compliance is something whose depths can perhaps never be fathomed. This is so because everything -meaning quite literally everything from a pin to an airplane -needs some or another kind of compliance. Any product, from the smallest to the biggest, has to be compliant with regulatory requirements. What is it that makes regulatory compliance such a big thing, who frames rules and laws relating to regulation, and why is it so important?

Why is regulation needed?

This is as simple as why rules are needed for governing people. Every product from every field in the physical world, to quote the example given above again, from pin to an airplane, is manufactured and finessed according to set standards. These standards are needed because in their absence, there is no such thing as science in them. Science is all about exactness, logic and predictability.

In the absence of regulatory compliance, this very foundation is shaken. In other words, there is no product without regulatory compliance. All products have to go through demonstrable, deducible and reproducible processes. This is what makes them actual products. Or else, they would be some kind of spiritual experiment that is left to the individual to experience.

Regulation is at the heart of products and processes:

Any product that is manufactured, no matter to which field it belongs, has to undergo a clearly demonstrable process. The process has to be objective, and it must be open to changes and refutations. Only a product that convincingly demonstrates that it is capable of producing its desired effect time and again in any situation and at any point of time qualifies to be a process-oriented product. Regulations are all about making setting out specifications for these.

Further, if a product is to demonstrate its core quality, it has to also ensure that it is safe within prescribed limits. Who sets these prescribed limits? It is regulatory authorities again. So, regulatory compliance is all about ensuring that a product is just what it is and that it serves its intended use within set safety parameters.

Regulatory compliance and non-manufactured products:

Compliance is thus an area that is as vast as it is exact. Respective regulatory bodies exist in different countries at different levels to ensure that anything that is produced meets regulatory compliance standards. Having said this, we have to bear in mind that only manufactured products are subject to these hairsplitting, high-definition regulations. For instance, rice is produced, but is not manufactured.

Safety and intended use are the prime factors:

This is different from the case of say, medicines. All the processes, right from the ingredient stage, are precise and scientific. This is where we have to understand how regulatory compliance works. Eventually, the aim is to ascertain and ensure safety and intended use. Compliance is also needed to make sure that organizations making products are come out with safe products.

Untangling the Web: An Introduction to Internet Research was written by Robyn Winder and Charlie Speight and published by the NSA’s Center for Digital Content back in 2007. It’s been declassified and made available now following a Freedom of Information Act requested lodged by MuckRock back in April. More…

In this article, we are going to investigate the concept of white noise, what it is and more specifically how it can be used in everyday life. We will also investigate how white noise machines and Sound Conditioners can easily and inexpensively be used to create acoustic privacy as well as a deeper and more relaxed state of mind.

Although there are many uses for white noise, we often see corporations using a white noise machine or system to “quiet” a department. Sound management is often necessary in situations where noise carries easily and there is little natural dampening of the sound by furniture, carpet or other factors like the shape of the room. With many employees working in close proximity to each other, often conversation or other noise travels easily in the workspace and can become a distraction.

In addition to creating a pleasant sound environment, sound conditioning devices are often used in instances where privacy is important. As an example, Doctor’s offices must adhere to strict Governmental privacy laws which pertain to the protection and release of patient data. The laws not only restrict the distribution of computer files and other hard copy data, but also place some onus on doctors to keep conversations private and confidential as well. The use of sound masking devices add a further layer of protection for the patient by limiting how much of a conversation can be heard by others.

Probably one of the greatest uses for these types of sound machines is with assisting people to sleep. There are many people who live in apartments with noisy neighbors or close to busy streets that could benefit from sound masking types of devices. They are particularly worthwhile for shift workers who sleep during the day, mothers with newborn babies, or travelers who find themselves in noisy hotel rooms.

So what exactly is white noise? White noise in simple terms is a “combination of all frequencies of sound audible to the human ear blended together. (Just as white light is composed of all frequencies of light). White noise sounds like a hiss, similar to radio static or the sound of rushing air when traveling by airplane.

Whether we as human beings classify sounds as being noisy or not is very subjective. Some people will focus on a sound and find it annoying, while others listening to the same sound are able to just tune it out. Noise bothers people because they are able to easily pick out that particular sound from all other sound in their environment and then “just can’t get it out of their heads”

White noise machines produce random audible sound frequencies that are distributed over the entire range of human hearing which blend with unwanted environmental noises in order to essentially mask them. Masking with white noise is a similar concept to trying to listen to a single violin that is playing with all the other instruments in a symphony orchestra. These machines do not eliminate or prevent unwanted sounds, but rather distract the listener’s brain by providing other sounds to listen to.

There are many types of white noise generator on the market today many of which can also produce natural sounds such as waterfalls, surf, or even simulate a mothers beating heart. They create a soothing and relaxing environment that is conducive for sleep and can also offer organizations a portable and compact privacy solution. Most machines are volume adjustable, and best of all, they are an easy and affordable remedy to an otherwise noisy problem.

Forensic corporate collections is a new debt collection technique. It utilizes new technology to make searching for and reclaiming debts easier. With the last 15 years, there have been many technological changes and these have helped create a new way of collecting debts.

Forensic collections is also good for collecting data, and lots of it. This comes in handy because the collected data can be used in a court of law and hold up against debtors. This is the primary purpose of a forensic corporate collections specialist, to follow the law and preserve data that will hold up in court.

Presently, there is less and less of a paper trail to following debtors. The trail has changed to the digital world and this is the goal of forensic corporate collections, to track down debtors and present this material in a court of law.

A forensic corporate collections agency works hard to track down this information, legally, and present it in the court house. Many 3rd party collection agencies break laws when pursuing a debtor, whether they be privacy laws or otherwise. A forensic collection agency works within the law to present the facts to the authorities, making sure not to break any laws in the process. This makes it possible to use the data in the court system and collect on the outstanding debt.

Forensic collection agencies uncover any evidence of fraud by the debtor. They search personal computers, email, cell phones, and PDAs to uncover evidence against the debtor. Most importantly, they preserve this evidence for use in the courts. Without this evidence, a debtor is more likely to get off without any punitive damages. This is what makes a forensic corporate collection agency different. They are highly trained and use cutting edge software and technology.

Next time you are in need of debt collection services, try a forensic corporate collections agency and see for yourself how effective they are. They are not your ordinary harassing collection agency, but actually a professional and organized firm. They have to be in order to have a presentable case for the courts.
